What are the meta changes for Season 2?
Learn about the most used meta teams for the first Era of S2
Season 2 finally began after a long off-season, with many changes as expected. Are you curious about the meta changes as well as the advanced teams performing at the top of the leaderboard? This article will bring the most used teams for the first Era of the season, as well as a vision of the Axies and teams that will remain strong and competitive for the next stages. Keep reading to learn more about team building and get recipes!
A shorter season with constant updates
The launch of the current season 2 brought several changes based on user feedback, including the announcement of a shorter season divided into four stages called “Eras”. As the season progresses, players will be able to unlock mystic and epic runes and charms in addition to basic crafting. Since the meta will constantly be changing under this new system, players may have to apply for different teams as the crafting of runes and charms becomes available.
Moreover, we conducted extensive testing with different team compositions over the last few days and have some interesting learnings to share.
Beast stands dominant
The actual scenario continues to demonstrate the beast class's dominance, as seen in season 1 and the off-season period. So far, the most important changes were the expansion of the Bird and Bug classes. Plants appear to be less preferred by current players and Aquatic is still relevant.

A detailed analysis of how top Axie classes evolved during the first seven days of the season reveals an increase in Birds and Bugs usage when compared to both season 1 and off-season. When this article was published (5 days after the beginning of the second Era), Beasts went down to 24%, Aquatics grew to 17%, Birds stand at the same level at 12%, Bugs went down to 6%, Reptiles recovered to 9%, and Dawn to 10%.
This means we will see more changes happening in the coming weeks and stages of the season. We will continue to provide updates via new content, so stay tuned!

Additionally, new runes and charms, and mechanics updates have significantly changed the set of teams performing in the top 100 on the leaderboard compared to last season.

The new meta and advanced teams
Even though Beasts are still at the top of the meta, we found that Poison Reptile teams and AOE Birds are doing very well on the leaderboard. Poison and Backdoor Aquas are still viable, and Rage Beasts, particularly those with the Belieber ear part, are still strong.
Poison remains consistent and fairly strong. Aquas with multiple backdoor cards are also viable, and Goo teams with shields are a recent addition to the meta.

Triple Beast options
We have tested various teams and believe that by playing with Triple Beast Cottontail, it is possible to reach the top 100 if the player gives the game enough time. The options listed below are all working pretty well.
Triple Beast with Cottontail and Goldfish

Triple Beast with Belieber, Little Branch, and Cottontail
This team will try to exploit the Belieber's damage and use methods to gain rage to attack with more damage while also using Cottontail to heal and use more cards.
